CHRS Examination

The CHRS exam is a computer-based three hour open-book examination, containing 75
multiple-choice questions. It is designed to evaluate the candidate’s knowledge of fire and life
safety principles and code application skills. The exam is only available in English. You may only
bring a printed 2015 edition of NFPA 101®, Life Safety Code® into the testing area during the
exam. No photocopied or other duplicated or electronic versions of this document is permitted
in the testing area during the exam. $195 USD for the initial exam. $150 USD to recertify at the
end of each three (3) year certification period.

Eligibility

A candidate for the CHRS certification must have attained a high school diploma or equivalent
before being allowed to sit for the exam.
